can I use atf or power steering fluid in my hydraulic jack?

I would say they are a bit thin.

 

i think they would work if you HAD to use them. i have had to use P/S fluid in our lifts at work without any problems.

 

They will work, I just worry about the gaskets (long term.....leakage).

 

any jack that I ever touched with atf leaked bad forever. Hydraulic oil seems to be good.

 

I usually just dump in whatever is in the first container I happen to grab, everything from engine oil to transmission oil, I used to have a bottle of " jack oil" around here somewhere, It's a jack , they are pretty simple, and none of mine have ever failed me.

 

You must not use them much. I don't get a year out of a 20ton jack for the big truck. Those Chinese deals in Lowe's are the worst.

 

I still have all the same jacks that my father had around when I was a kid , and they all still work, and they are all brand name, I do not buy much of that chinese crap.
