95-99 Suburban
Anyone had one?
Especially the 2500 version.
We've got a baby on the way and are looking at moving to a larger suv for the wife to drive around town.
Any comments, words of advice or anything else would be great.
THANKS!

I had a friend that had a 97 1500 LT. It was good up until about 85k or so, then it went downhill fast. The interior quality was very poor and other non-engine components had to be replaced. The engine was still strong, it was the reliable 350. They also had a 97 3500 Crew Cab 454 and a 97 1500 pickup with 350 and all 3 had interior quality issues.
If you are looking as new as 99, I think that was the new body style. They have much nicer interiors and the 5.3 engine in the 1500.

I had a 1994 ,1500 Suburban that all I had to to was check the oil and fill up with gas. Then traded up and got a 1999 with the 350, 1500 and within the same miles had intake manifold leak (warranty), front end rebuild, air condition leak fixed (twice under waranty), transmission rebuilt, brakes rebuilt (twice), water pump and every "gosh darn" power lock solenoid replaced. The power windows were starting to act up when I had enough. Everytime I took my truck in there was always additional stuff to be done. A good dealer does make a difference, the one here is a.... Talking with some friends in Texas they told me their dealer called and had them bring their trucks for repairs BEFORE the waranty expires (power door locks). Both trucks were driven to just over 100k miles. In short, 1999 GMC Suburban=, Dodge Ram w/Cummins= JMO.

Haven't had a Sub, but have had many '90-97 GM 1/2 ton pickups (same chassis/drivetrain). I've found them to be very reliable.
'90 GMC, sold w/ 160k, only repairs rear wheel cyl, alt, starter, new clutch (from driving like an edit), saw the truck 2 yrs later w/ 220k on the clock pulling a horse trailer, orig running gear still
'97Chev Z71, ran up to about 100k mi, fuel pump only repair
'97 Z71 (mom's), has 140k mi and counting, orig running gear, don't know that she's had any major repairs
another '90 GMC, bought truck in 2000 w/ 25k mi, ranit to 80 k and sold. Battery, alt, starter, shocks, front brakes
If you can find one well taken care of, I thinkit'll serve you well

97 Tahoe LT here. Bought used 3 years ago w/ 90K. I'm 6'3 and its a lot more comfortable than my 02 Sierra Crew Cab by a mile. Some nickle and diming but a solid vehicle. 112K now but a little tight w/ 3 car seats and the shorter wheelbase. I'm actually looking for a 98-99 Sub 2500 w/ the 6.5 turbo diesel as a replacement. Find a good maintained one, pay a little more and save yourself alot of hassle. Kurt
