Will dodge make a "suburban" ?
My husband just bought a 2001 Dodge diesel and we love it! We are a family of six and would love to have a suburban or excursion type vehicle, but made by dodge with the cummins engine.....think they will do it?

Welcome. They seem to be putting out a Jeep/Hummer hybrid body style, like Herb said, on a 3/4 ton chassis with a Cummins. Looks like commercial/ municiple applications first, maybe it will be available to the public next year?

With Ford getting out of the X market due to low revenue/profits, and the ongoing onslaught against SUV's, I don't see DC entering that fray with anything other than the Durango.
i actually seen the newsletter sent to chrysler dealers last month saying they were going to be available this summer, with photo.
actually looks similar to the hummer ,but a little larger.

I haven't looked up the dimensions myself, but I heard that the new Durango is actually bigger than the regular Tahoe. They may be putting out a Hummer type vehicle, but I doubt they would go any larger with their current stuff.
I made one as no one offered one. I wanted three row seating with lots of cargo space, a Cummins engine, a manual transmission, and at a lot less cost that what is currently expected. I added a canopy, two seats in the bed, a CO detector and lots of weatherstripping. There are some federal standards for adding seats and seatbelts as it's commonly done on commercial vehicles, but one needs to assume that CO will be a problem as pickup beds aren't sealed and the exhaust usually exits in front of the bumper and tailgate. The kids preferred a couple of bucket seats over a bench, so a friend an I used 1/4in hot rolled steel plate with about two feet of weld per seat to make a mounting bracket. Four 1/2 in grade 8 bolts hold each seat to the bed, which is also reinforced with a wide strip of the 1/4 in plate. The idea is to prevent to the seat hardware from acting like a can opener on the body sheet metal. I use retracting lap belts. The canopy seems to be adequately insulated, the silver color seems to help too, and the kids like riding in the back. I have seat belts for 8, and we've had 7 in the truck on long trips with bags, packs and pads for 7, two tents, two coolers, and a bunch of other camping gear and food.
So far my experience is that even if they offered a Cummins SUV I would prefer the setup that I have, as a pickup used as an SUV when needed is more useful than trying to use an SUV as a pickup. Besides, a Cummins SUV would probably cost at least an extra $15 and have a lot less load capacity. Consider the Ford Excursion, which has a load capacity of something like 1600 lbs, and seems to start at about $40k.

I beleive there is a company that does conversions I have seen and earlier ram pick-up that was converted, looked pretty good. With the Quad cab design I would think it would be even easier.
