Nice work on the disassembly pictures. Doesn't look like a job we should try to tackle at "The Ranch".

There was a heavy dew on the truck when I left this morning. When I turned the wipers on, I got nothing but a heavy film of oil on the windshield. I had to drive about 2 miles into the morning sun, and it was not fun! I just got through cleaning it with orange cleaner and Windex, but it still looks a little streaky.
No wonder the second thing I heard from the g/f when I saw her on Sunday was "You stink!" (first thing was Hi). I'm surprised the water didn't just bead right off in the shower.

Didn't think it was going up wind....we were just happy we didn't melt any plastic on your front end.

"Zero Wear"! By far the most recurring comment from those of us unfortunate enough to have to get a look under the head. And that's at what...150,000 miles?
Fade94 please note; 6 yrs of use, 500+ hp, and VERY little wear. No real reason not to bomb... at least a little!

BN, Nice pics!
Is that the leak area.... between #1 & #2?
Any valve signature on pistons?
Find the push rod holes in the cowl? (didn't believe me, did ya)?

1st Gens did not have it.... 24v marine piston, I saw once, did. I'm pretty sure mine did but wasn't into pics then and can't recall?

Brian, that engine looks great. Kinda makes me feel better about my engine and the heck I put it through.

Ya it was just astonishing to see a brand new cylinders and pistons when I pulled the head 130,000miles young!!

Still not sure exactly where the leak was. I plan on taking the gasket up with me toFt. Worth on Monday to see what he thinks... Seeing that part of it stuck to the head and some to the block, I dont know if I'll be able to tell or not... Ya found the holes... Ur right didn't believe ya!! Had to bend one a bit to get #5 exhaust rod out Was hitting a lip in the cowl...

Didn't see any valve signatures at all on the pistons, will take a closer look later. Also didn't notice injector spray pattern like on that 1st gen? piston... Found that interesting as well...

Got my Yota up and running!! So it's putting me aroud town... Little scary on the highway though That crossover steering and 8inches of lift gives it a bit of wander!! 263,000 miles don't help anything either!!

Sounds like your engine is in great shape! Going to drop the valves & guides out... seals & springs too? (since they are replacing them anyway). Would love to see those pics... and underside of head before & after!

Would be interesting to ck how level the head is before it's deck, if you have the tools, and the time, to do so. Have heard (think I told you) some very poor out of level measurements for NEW factory heads bgt as replacements.

Ponder this one with me for a while guys. I finally got rid of that external wastegate and downpipe assembly (thank god cause I found another small piece of metal in my new turbo. that wastegate flange was getting brittle) and when I did that a couple of things changed. The stacks got a hollow, more throaty sound to them and my cruising egt's are down 50-100* and cruising boost is down 1-2psi. The charger also lights a lot faster now and I can barely get a whisp of smoke with the tst on 1. Any ideas? I put the entire assembly (ksb-1, wastegate, and down pipe) on a buddy's truck yesterday and it's running great. Till his converter started banging and slipping 4 hours later.

Had a serious problem with my CTD today.

Noticed the drivers seat flashlight holder broke (front spring bracket).
Hotdram was first, and Crotex found an outlet for them. Think several others have added them as well? Anyone else had breakage?

Anyone want before & after pics of the R&R... I'll be glad to provide.

Your obviously more efficient now.... lower boost and lower temps to maintain speed. Did you check the Tialed exhaust manifold for cracks? Did you ever seal the hole in the flange weld... noticed it was still there at the GTG?

"Buddy's truck is running great" - his evaluation or yours? Can't see why it's AOK on his CTD and screwed up on yours? Or is that what your asking about??

Yes I did and there was a very smal crack in the divider that was just beginning to form. Never did seal the hole in the manifold since I never figured that it was causing a big issue anyways. The only reason I can figure for the change in noise and egt's is that the flange for that wastegate was stuck down in there so far that it was actually blocking off some flow from the cylinders.

That was his evaluation and mine. No more high pitched scream coming out of the ksb-1, wastegate opens at 32 (that's with his quad turned off), no leaks, no funny noises, just pure raw b1 power. I'm not saying that it was messed up on mine. Just noticing differences after swapping stuff around.

The piston at Rob's house, I think the build date was on it and was something like 08-99 or something like that., BigBlue you remember that? BTW if your not getting much smoke now with your wastegate gone, then maybe it'll be nicer for the people who are following you.
