We have two winches on our trailers one is a superwinch and the other is an ebay special ... IMO the superwinch is not worth the extra money the ebay special has a better controler, brake, and the same 12,000# rating.

Just go to Harbor Freight and buy the cheapest 8K winch they have. You will only use it once a year maybe twice. You don't need such a big winch. You are moving a rolling load, not winching up a rock covered hill. And if you need more just use a ****** block and the capacity is doubled.
Most race trailers only have a little 1.5k winch, why?

Dave

I knew that you had both a e-bay special and a name brand, glad to hear that the e-bay special is worth it for you.

Scott-

That trailer is getting another axle soon, so I will be able to put 15k on the trailer and still be legal (I am going to get a class A CDL), hence why I want such a big winch. I do not want to have to buy another one because I did not buy a big enough one the first time. Agreed that I will rarely use it, maybe once or twice a year, but they do come in handy. The one that TJ has we have only used three times in the year or two he has had it, but each time we needed it and its capacity.

Most of you know that I am a fan of going overboard on things that I only want to do once. My Traction bars are overkill for my application, but I did not want to do them again. Same for my weld on tie downs on the trailer, they are rated for 15k+ each, that means that the load on the trailer would have to be 30k to the rear two and once the front two get here that would make it 60k, I know I will never put that kind of weight on but the safety factor is worth the extra few dollars to me.
