New to diesel
Hi all!
I'm the new owner of a 98 12v Dodge 2500.
I love this truck! My question is,
What are some of the things I should keep an eye on. As far as things going out. I just had the differential rebuilt. The truck has 192k on it and I think it's all stock.
Thanks,
Joe

Welcome, you made a good decision on the 12 valve. The two biggest items to take care of on the 12v is the KDP (do a search for Killer Dowel Pin) it can drop out and take out your timing gears and do other damage as well. The other is the 5th gear nut(if youve got a 5 speed) those are known to vibrate off the shaft and drop your 5th gear into the tranny oil pan. Most will advise against shifting into 5th gear w/ the rpms under 1600, especially if your towing a load. But, Both of these things are fixable. Enjoy your new truck. Dont baby the engine, Cummins like to work hard!

So yesterday I was sitting at an intersection and was waiting my turn. It was at a pretty steep incline, and when I took off the truck barley moved! Like the brake was on or something. Like I said, I'm new to diesel... but is this normal?

Welcome to the website Darnjoe! Also, congratulations on the purchase of your 98' Dodge CTD 12 valve. I bought my 96' Dodge CTD 12 valve new, still have it, and it now has 303,000 miles on it. Of the four Dodge CTD Pickups I have owned, I like my old 12 valve the best.
Take care and let us know if you need anything.
