Another Canadian!

Hello,
Been lurking for a while finally decide to say hello as I finally got my self a new truck. New to me anyway. Bought a '06 Q cab longbox 4x4 2500 Laramie. Holy **** I love this truck. It's replacing my '90 D250 4x4 which has 420,000 km. on it.
Don't get me wrong, I still dig the old truck, but its getting a bit soft in the corners. Still runs strong all day long but I wanted to step up to something newer.
Bought the truck in Houston, flew from Calgary Alberta and drove it 2500 miles home. Trip took 5 days, my girl was with me and we stopped at a bunch of places and averaged about 19 mpg.
I am resisting the urge to start modding as I need to use the truck daily and I already have a garage full of motorcycles and a unfinished project car.
Although perhaps some wheels and burly rubber may find their way very soon!
Winter is coming after all!
That's about all.
Thanks
Shawn

Elshawn, welcome to the site. I'm sure you noticed the asterisks that appeared in your post. That's due to the profanity filter, we're "G" rated.

Welcome aboard!

Sounds like you jumped right in on the US market. I have been considering the same. Like Tate said, drop on by the ABDTR#5 link in the chapters area for our local events and such.

Totallyrad, sorry about the cursing, although it wasn't bad! G rated is super cool.
Lil Dog, If you have any questions about the importing process, feel free to drop me a PM.
It is dead easy and pretty painless and I saved about $19,000. Sure I have no warranty but with what I saved, I can replace the motor and still be ahead of the game.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Is that totally true on the warranty? I was getting the story that it was only for the first 6 months or something like that.

Yes, from what I understand, there is no warranty at all. In fact it states that in the warranty book, "Blah, blah, warranty is only good if vehicle is sold in the United States, blah, blah" not an exact quote, but you get the idea.
Apparently it is also getting harder to get Dodge to turn on the DRLs as well. The tech that did mine (for free, in the parking lot, in about 2 minutes!) told me they would usually book people in and charge them something like an hour labour!
It's kind of a bummer, but as I said in my intro post, the money I saved was well worth the no warranty trade off. Although we we will have to see if I'm singing the same tune when/if something expensive goes south!

The couple of dealers I was talking to in the US are saying they will get it all ready to go with papers to the boarder! All I have to do is pick it up, get the safety sticker and register.. They were all very accommodating to know what updates to do and setting the DRL's.

Awesome! The dealers in the States are totally accommodating. The guy I bought my truck from picked me up from my hotel. It wasn't a Dodge dealer otherwise I'm sure they would have done the DRLs for me. Dude even gave me a box of granola bars for the road.
So when you gonna go get a new truck?

If it's a dealer, make it "a condition of sale" for the DRL's and high idle. They'll do it pretty quick if you're holding the final payment check in your hand.

If the dealer I bought mine from wouldn't have closely matched US pricing, I would have bought mine down South as well. For me, warranty means nothing anyway, as a dealer tech won't touch my truck. I'd rather pay a discounted rate and take it to my cousin-in-law's shop and get it done right.

If you need a guy that used to work at a couple DC shops, but now owns his own in Edmonton, just ask for the info.

Congrats! Welcome!
