2006 dodge 1 ton mega cab cummins. automatic
when you turn the key to the crank position, engine will not crank.
voltage at the batteries is fine. everything works with the key in the run position.
After several attempts you will here the starter start to engage, and after a few more attempts it will start to work again and start the engine.
I am thinking ignition switch?
Does this model have a adjustment/rod dowm in the sterring column?

Sounds like a bad connection on either the battery cable or the starter. Feel for a Hot connection after you have tried to start.

check your fuses Mopar used a ASD fuse which stands for Auto Shut Down if that fuse pops no crank no start
