whistling intake
I need help and by the looks of it I found the place to get it. I just traded my 97 v10 in and got my first diesel 2001 2500 short bed a/t I am in heaven. BUTTT I put a k&n in a few weeks ago and now I am hearing a very high pitch whistle could it be the filter. am wondering this after reading your ideas about k&n. While writing this I just ordered a napa 2790 bhaf.
It's probably just the turbo. Do you hear it mostly when the motor is working? After the bhaf you'll hear it even better. Most of us enjoy it so much we remove the silencer ring, so we can hear it better.
Sorry guys for got to type in its not the wonderful sound of the turbo. It is an annoying whistle very loud and only evident during mild acceleration. when getting on it the turbo over powers the whistle. thanks
There is restrictor valve on one of the heater hose lines that will cause this. On my '99, it's located on the passenger side of the engine, toward the back, up near the valve cover. If you look at this pic, you can see it coming out of the firewall to the engine. The one on the right.

Ok you don't think it's your turbo did it whistle before you changed filthers? I put a cold air pack on mine, before quiet afther wow what a whistle now I did put the torque tube on it. Any way it was really loud so put a turbo air guide, {TAG} on it now this product is for making the turbo get a better bite because it stops the swirling of the air another thing it does is quietens the whistle not all of it but enough to live with, cost about 120.00 I'm on my 2nd trk with the same system and both whistled.
I seem to remember reading that K&N's don't seal very well in the airbox sometimes. Some guys have used a bit of grease on the sealing surfaces. Are you sure you don't have a small boost leak? Check for a cracked intercooler boot and make sure all the clamps are tight. They should be torqued to 72 in-lbs.
k&ns are not good for the motor. a friend had a drop in k&n in his 99 ctd. after a while, he had to get some motor work done. they said the cylender walls looked like someone had sandblasted them. not good
