Whats the DTR consensus on my 47RE??

what thoughts do the people with more knowledge about this pile of crap behind my engine think about THIS problem??

Symptoms: doesnt shift out of 1st. will hit redline before downshifting to second. the other trick to getting it out of 1st, is to go all the way to 3000RPM, then let off the throttle completely, downshifts on its way back to idle.

its good after it gets out of first, though too much throttle in 2nd will send it back into first (like towing!). otherwise, it shifts through the other 3 gears fine. the torque converter seems to lockup just fine while crusing at 60MPH +, both unloaded and while towing.

the shifts out of 1st will be *decent* for the first 5 minutes in the morning, but get gradually worse every stop, and by the time its warmed up, it doesnt shift, unless i work the throttle, as described above...

thoughts anyone?? under normal circumstances, id never screw around with this transmission- drop it, and put in a killer aftermarket transmission... BUT im broke, and have to get it taken care of without being extravagent.

When mine wouldn't shift out of first it was the VSS in the tailshaft of the tranny. At first it would shift if you got the RPM up high enogh and let off, then it wouldn't shift at all. Drove 15 miles home in first, top speed 27 mph.

Did you check for codes?
I suppose there is either some sensor buggering you or the throttle valve cable misadjusted or the fluid/filter somewhat out of whack.
If you need to go cheap I'd drop the pan and do a band adjustment, get a good look at the TV cable (not cableTV ) and for good measure check all the electric connectors on the tranny and the PCM.

Band adjustments seem to solve alot of problems in these trannies. I agree with fluid and band adjust. Codes second. I would bet on the VSS also.

Get some codes. It sounds electrical, either the VSS as stated earlier, or quite possibly a solenoid, like the governor pressure. Codes will clue you in on the electrical portion. If no codes, then try mechanical adjustments. Good luck

anyone else??

i have had a 1693 show up a few times, but i think it is related to the fuel issue, im starting to get.. i had it read by a chrysler DRB, and it showed up as 'injection pump timing failure' im still in the process of getting that figured out also. i have the mopar intank lift pump conversion sitting in the garage waiting to be installed... though im having second thoughts about it after reading on DTR for a while.

what is the procedures for checking the TV cable? gov pressure solenoid? can they be found on here somewhere??

it seems as though my problem is identical in symptoms as this guy:

There was another member with the same "won't shift to 2 unless I let off the throttle momentarily...." and it was the anchor for the kickdown band that had dropped out rendering the kickdown band useless. Might drop the pan and have a look.
