Weird Starting Issue

Greetings from Truckee CA,

While I have plenty to add to the list, I arrive here with two questions all of a sudden.

After replacing all 4 battery cables with new OEM cables (expensive!!), and having a confirmed strong pair of batteries and a good alternator, my 1998 Ram 2500 4wd now won't start at all. All interior lights are bright. There is an interesting clicking near the interior fuse box in the blue relay in there, but no fuses are blown. All connections are solid, and after triple and quadruple checking everything, all is connected properly. I have checked engine compartment fuses too - fine. Turning the key gets no crank, just a couple clicks (no sparking anywhere). Baffled... If something's shorted, what? I am not seeing anything.

This is my work truck; she's gotta run everyday!

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the starter contacts.

I was thinking the same thing...You could remove your starter and do a bench test with a 12V battery.See if the bendix even turns...

I would check if the starter solenoid wire is getting 12V when a helper turns the key to Crank. If it does, definitely contacts as everyone above said.
BTW, they are $28 for the set delivered on E-bay. I got mine there, and my truck never cranked better after I replaced them.

Make sure that there is a body ground too. A small wire going from the battery ( or both ) to the fender.
