Weird Starting Condition

My truck has always started fine untill about a month ago with absolutely no warning. It has no pattern to it, it just does it whenever, unless I kill it and start it back up within a few minutes. Sometimes it will start fine cold but then other times it won't. When it does it the engine will cranck for 5-7 seconds and then fire (but not start) and then it goes back to cranking and then start soon after that, all in one turn of the key. I draned the fuel filter canister and cleaned it out. That didn't fix it. When it started I had the set of DD3 Jammers in the truck, I thought that might be it. But when I switched to the JR Stage 4's, nothing changed. Fuel pressure is perfect. Right at 20psi. The truck runs great, no hesitation, no white smoke, no nothing. I plugged the Snap On Scanner into it to try to maybe get a code out of it to see what was going on and the scanner didn't say anything. The only thing I can think of is a leak somewhere in the lines. But it doesn't leak anywhere. I'm stumped. Please help! Thanks.

Eric

How about crank or cam sensor (not sure which one(s) this has) gone flaky? The only real thing beyond that would be the VP44, I think.

I thought about the cam or crank sensor, but wouldn't that throw a code? Or is the only way to find out if that's bad is to change it and hope that that fixes it? Thanks

20 psi might be too much when starting

It's not 20 psi when starting. When starting it sits at about 10 psi. I thought the same thing at first but then I double checked the pressure on startup.

Air leaks in the suction side of the fuel lines might cause that. The fuel wouldn't leak anywhere but the pump would pull in air. Try bypassing the fuel lines at the suction side of the lift pump. Use some clear tubing and pull the fuel from a clean bucket. Watch for air bubles in the line. If the truck starts right then you have your diagnosis. Concentrate on the quick connects, they are trouble.

I need to do that. That would give me a quick answer. Does anyone know if these have crank or cam sensors in them. I know in the Powerchoke's they are notorious for going out. Them again, it's a powerstroke! Thanks
