vp44 warranty help

99 dodge 4x4 2500 24v. I've had this for 5 years and two months with 91,000 miles. I'm very sure the IP is wasted! I pulled out of the driveway yesterday gave it some throttle and lost all power and it ran real rough a full throttle with no power. I replaced the lift pump this morning and I still have the same problem. I have disconnected the battery cables in the hope to reset the computer. This has not helped . I have a good connection with the manager at my dealership he has offered to waive the dionostic fee if I get the truck to them. We have AAA and I have never had a car or truck towed ever. Am I possibly missing somthing simple? The fuel system is primed and starts as good as ever, it just runs rough. It idles perfectly, but will not get over 1000 rpm's at full thottle. It seems to clear up a little when I crack an injector line. Also, I did fuel up on monday, where I fuel up often, a full tank, and I have gone through about a 3rd of it with no performance problems. Is there a trick to make sure I get this covered under warranty if it is the IP.

Cummins says 100K miles. You could check key off/on 3 times and see what codes pop up on your odometer, but from what you are describing, your pump sounds like it has bought the farm. You might take receipts for lift pump replacement in with truck to dealer and see if they will reimburse you for the parts you purchased since Cummins still owned that too when you replaced.

The only thing that could possibly be a hinderance to repairs under warranty is if you have modded the fuel system and pierced the wire to the original IP.

Good LUCK and GO GET EM!!!

Take it in to the dealer and make sure they see it before 100K. Document the issue before it goes out and they should warranty the VP44. Good luck.

You cannot read your codes that way on a '99, have to have someone read them with a scanner. Yours is acting exactly like mine did when it went out, idled great and that was all. The codes should show the injection pump malfunction. And it is warranty unless it has been voided by a previous owner for a fuel box or something.

did the apps reset and that didn't work. It only figures I buy a truck that you can't read the codes off of. I'm going to have it towed in, let them scan it. If they don't warranty it, I'll be fixing it myself with a IP from Supeior Diesel in detroit . I had them do a 6.2 IP back in 1990 and that pump is still running better than new. I will also be adding the low presure light when i'm done with this. I wish I new about that before!

If it is five years and two months they will not warranty it. Autozone will read the codes free or you can buy the scanner for about $140 and have it all the time. Glad I bought mine, have used it on a bunch of cars besides the truck. Scanner will be cheaper than the tow job.

The dealer is waiting for the injection pump from atlanta. It is getting fixed under warranty, maybe I'll try to get my money back for the lift pump as well. I'm very happy,as I have enough time and money to spend on plow trucks for this winter, two complete rebuilds and with all the rain we have had I have not been able to stsrt on them yet.
