VP-44 change-out...Need special tool!!!!

Hey Guys,

I'm in Western Washington and just lost an IP. Am replacing it as soon as I get the bad one out. Does anyone know where I can rent that little press to get the VP-44 pressed out of its mount?? I've watched the YouTube thing a bunch of times, but the guy never mentions where a feller could rent one of those round press tools. Any ideas?/ How could you make one that would do the same thing? Dimensions?? Thanks.

I bought a steering wheel puller at SEARS years ago. (Not too expen$ive)
I have used it successfully to replace 4 VP-44s. (WHOLE 'nuther subject)

It looks like this:

You'll need to pick up the correct size/thread bolts to screw into the timing gear. (My puller didn't have the right size)

Thanks Shovel! I just happen to have a handy dandy steering gear puller just like that one. I'll bet Tacoma screw will have a whole bin full of the right size bolts! I was under the impression that only that round tool would be able to get the job done I love DTR and all the gear heads who hang out here!

Farm, it can freak you out when that gear finally pops loose. I know I darned near had a heart attack the first time I pulled one.

Good luck, it isn't a bad job.

Add a short piece of duct tape to the tool box. You don't wanna drop that keyway.
