VE pump on 2nd gen?

Tonight me and a friend went to look at a second gen 2500. Its a nice truck, small amounts of rust. We did not notice any problems with the truck. It is a 1994. We drove it around for a while and it ran awesome. The truck has 56k miles on it. Right before he handed the guy 7k he noticed something under the hood. It had a ve pump.

My question is. The truck has a VE pump on it?!? Did they ever put a ve pump on a second gen cummins. The guy is the original owner of the truck. And said he has never done any work to the truck at all and that its been like this. My friend and I are not sure whether there was a VE pump put on a 2nd gen. We were both skeptical. So I am asking all of you who would know this question. Because if this guy is lying about one thing. Who knows what else he is lying about. I thought VEs were only on first gen. unless it was changed?

We have 2 hours from now to decide, so thats why I'm posting in the help. thanks!

No, it should not have a VE pump, it should have a VP44.

They look somewhat similar, they are both rotary pumps. If you can't find the throttle lever on the pump it's a VP44.

its a VE pump for sure then. We were acting dumb like we knew nothing about the truck to see if the guy would lie to us about anything. Now that I know its A VE pump I'm going to go back and ask him whats going on.

Actually it should have the p7100 pump. The vp44 came in 98.5 on the 24 valve.

Here is a pic of the VE 1988-93

Here is the one it should have on it

Well its defiantly a VE then, because I went and looked at mine, and it looks exactly the same as the one on my truck.

I just wonder if the engine was ever replaced......

Ill get pictures of it when we go back. I'm leaving right now to go back to it!

Other than the IP, everything else under the hood likes like a second Gen

If possible. In like 35 minutes from now (In around 7:45 Eastern time) can someone give me a call at 724-991-1271 if i get service where I'm at so they could guide me along so that I know for 100% its a VE pump before we back out of a good deal like this? If my phone goes right to voice mail, I'm out of service and ill get back to whoever, just leave me a voice mail please.

As its a 1994 the very first of the second gen it could be the factory was using up left over stuff on the first trucks off the line.

Interesting. Id like to see some pics too. Unfortuneatly I dont know enough about 12 valves to know if theres any visual differences between first and second gen 12 valves, other than the pumps and the valve cover, but theres gotta be somethin right? If there is, what gen does it look like??

Hey guys, i got some pictures of the engine bay of the truck! I will post them up here soon. They are a little dark so i need to try to brighten them up because you cant really see anything but an outline seeing as it was completely dark out and we only had the under hood light to use.

Heres the story. Engine was blown recently. engine was replaced with a 1993 engine, yet everything from the 1994 engine was swapped over!

94 engine supposedly caught on fire! thanks to carfax.com, and owner had liability insurance!

Called the owner of the truck out on this and we got hung up on!

Yes. We went into this deal pretending to never own a diesel nor work on a diesel. We told him we had no experience, we played so dumb and he lied to us thinking we didn't know he was lying. I wish the pictures would brighten up. I tried to lighten them up in photo shop but the phones are just too dark because all we had was the under hood light.

We have tried several times after this to contact the owner of the truck and we either get the hang up situation. Or his wife or son saying they dont know who I am calling for and they have never heard that name before.
