Question Vacuum pump seal?

The seal on my vacuum pump has finally bit the dust. Now its become an automatic rustproofing device!!HEHE

I remember someone saying you can get this seal from Genos but for the life of me I cant seemed to find it on his website. Does anyone have a number for this seal as its always a pain in the neck getting things across the border up to here? Last time I bought something the taxes, duty and shipping were more than the product!!

Thanks

Jason

Jason, I think that the source of the seal is Cummins.

Be sure to also get the o-ring. Replacing only the seal does not always cure the leak.

Thanks very much guys, i went and did a search on here and found a pile of info. I will order the seal and oring on monday from a local supplier, they had the seals but then I remembered I needed the orings so will get it all at once.

One thing I would like to know from someone who has had one out is if it has a spring inside and is it a double lipped seal or a single.

Thanks

I did the seal on my 2002. The seal you need is part # 28X38X7AV. This seal is made of Viton. I got it through Kaman Ind. via International Seal & Packing. It has a spring and is double lipped.

ISP would like to work through a dealer thus my using Kaman. I have seen a part # 10924 from CR, but when I checked into the material that is was made of it was not Viton. If it's butyl rubber it's only good to about 200 degrees. I don't think that's high enough for this application. Viton is rated for 400 degrees. The seal cost me $9.67.

As far as the o-ring I reused mine as I got the wrong one. It isn't leaking anymore. I didn't find out until I had the pump apart. I should have measured it but wasn't thinking. If any one knows the size I would appreciate you letting me know.

Hope this helps, Frank.

Well, my pump is apart on the bench and I too have the wrong size O ring.

I will drive around the country side tomorrow and see if I can find the proper O rings to do the job.

Another thing is there are Two O rings to contend with so when I find out what size they are I will post them here and then one of the moderators or administrators can add the sizes to the thread in the tech facts.

Wish me luck

I assume that since the vacuum pump is connected to the Power Steering Pump, then you are leaking P.S fluid?
