truck wont start after alarm
i have an 06 that i left running and when i got out the alarm went off. i reached in and shut the truck off and now it wont start. i unhooked the batteries and that didnt work. i think the anti theft system is on but i dont know haw to fix it. the key and lock/unlock/panic button is all one unit. any ideas
here is a couple other things to help. the truck is stock, i just got it yesterday. when i put the key in now, the horn honks once and thats it. there is the little red light the stays on fot about 5 seconds. no click or anything when i turn the key. the normal light do come on.
did that. no workie. all the fuses are good
im sure it has something to do with the security system cause when the alarm was going off when i turned the ignition off and it stopped.

It sounds like the security system is not recognizing your key as a valid key. You may end up needing to have that key reprogrammed to your truck or even end up replacing it because it's no good.

so here is the poroblem now. the truck is doing this constantly.
i can start it 3,5,10 times. then i will go to start it and nothing. i am having to unhook the batteries, let it sit for 30 minutes, hook them back up, cycle the key 3 times, and then half of the time it will start. if not, do it all over again.
anyone got any more ideas?

is it the factory alarm? the factory alarm should have a little plunger button that is used to override the alarm... might have to play with that button.
if the key is not recognized, it should let you start, but it will kill the engine within a min or so after running or putting it into gear. if you get a new key, probably best to get two. after you have two programmed, you can program a third yourself without cost.

Are you talking about the button on the key or is there one elsewhere? I have pushed the key button multipal times.
It is in park. I made sure. I tried neutral too. I havent tried a neutral safety switch yet, I have been exhausting all other options first.
Alarms are a pain. And, they are not easy, by nature, to disable or remove. Did anybody call the police while it was going off? To me, they are more useless than helpful.
I would say you need to contact an installer. They should know how it works, and whether there is a problem, or you just don't know how to reset things.
We have one on my wife's van, and I wish it had never been installed. But, it is tied into the ignition system, and a mess to remove.
Once, while the keys were still in the ignition, as I walked away, the system locked the doors. No one was in the van, and no one was touching the key fob. It just locked itself. I was supposed to leave and pick up our kids at the inlaws, but I couldn't get in, or get my wife on the phone to get the second set of keys. Stupid alarm systems.

the factory anti thef sometimes locks up if a bad key is tried multiple times, to reset it you may have to switch key on, open frt doors, and let it sit for an hour or so. hook up a charger first. probably need to tow it to dealer
i had that happen on my 05 and ever sense then iv had to putt my truck in neutral to start it. dodge was going to charge me $500 to fix it so i still putt my truck in neutral to start it i think i can live with it. i dont know how to help you if u have tried the neutral thing. but my truck did the same. hope u get going soon.
