Truck died on freeway...

70 mph on freeway and it just died - wont restart. Disconnected batteries (on freeway) twice to reset computer - no good. Did the click the key a few times and get a P1693 code. Help! Is this VP44 death? Had the truck towed home, now I need to figure out what to do next...

P1693 is nothing but a code telling you that there is a code. Was there another code along with it?

Could be the VP - it often won't give a code when it dies; Ck for fuel at the injectors!

Send a PM to Shovelhead. He had the same thing happen to him. No codes, dead VP-44.

P0216 is the code sent when the system detects failure of the control board in the VP44 itself. That pretty much cinches it as a failed VP44.

Well, I just cracked a fuel line - dry as a bone. Nada, nothing. Guess its HRVP time. Anyone on how these hold up compared to the regular?

the new pumps are supposed to be better. hold up to heat and vibration better than the stockers. the hrvp may give you a lope at idle, but a noticable increase in power. give doug at pdw a call

Try to avoid a remanufactured pump that is painted black.
Usually purchased at a "Chain" type auto parts stores and sometimes at the dealers.
They're reportedly rebuilt overseas and are more prone to early failures.
