Truck died

Last night I was leaving a parking lot. Well I was going through the gears
and accelerating really hard. Like I normally do. Well the truck didnt miss, or anything, it just died. I
coasted to a stop and tried to restart it. Nothing just cranked until battery went low.

It was late so I didnt try to add fuel and crack some lines yet. It was on about an 1/8
of a tank of fuel.

Could it be empty?

Help.

Re:Truck died

If it were my truck I would view the fuel gauge with great suspicion. Guilty until proven innocent sort of thing. Try putting in about 10 gallons or more, bleed the system and see what happens. If when bleeding the system a lot of air comes out and the truck runs normally after that, you can fairly safely assume that the sender unit has gone south. If it still will not run, well then maybe the pump died. I always fill my tank to the top at each fill and zero the trip indicator. This way I have a dual fuel indicator, plus it gives me a rough idea if something suddenly goes wrong with fuel consumption. Been doing this for years on all my vehicles and now tend to go by mileage rather the fuel gauge before filling up.

Re:Truck died

Well a friend of mine had the same thing happen a few weeks ago, and his sending unit was bad.

I am hopeing mine is the same since it is at the same mileage as his was when he had that happen.
I have a new transfer pump, and when it died the pressures were great. It was sitting on 12psi
at WOT.

I cant wait to go home and work to see if she will run. I hate being without my truck. Its like a family member is sick
or something.

Re:Truck died

The fuel sending units in the tank, are notoriously bad in these vehicles. I hope that it turns out to be nothing but that for you as well.

Good luck!

Sorry to say so, but I think you aren't lucky.... having fuel pressure indicates that it wasn't an empty tank.
I hope that I am wrong..

Re:Truck died

I was traveling down the road with the cruise on and lost my injection pump. It was on my 99 2500.

Re:Truck died

Well I cracked some lines and fired it up last night. It will Idle smooth, but when trying to
give it throttle, it runs very rough. I also noticed the check engine light, and ABS
along with brake light stays on.

???????????????????????????????

Re:Truck died

I wish it was that. It is full and will run at idle.

I ran a scanner on it yesterday and it came up a map sensor failure.

Re:Truck died

Get a hold of Darrell B. Either here or at your all's site. I know he has replaced 2.
