Truck died

My 93 dodge quit running. We were in Slave lake,Alberta and when we left to come home we made it about 10 miles and she started to sputter, had no power. So i was stranded on the side of the road.A gentleman with a work truck stopped and puleed me to the nearest pullout, listened to my truck and said it was the lift pump.(he said he was a diesel mechanic). So i went cool i can fix that, found a pump and put it in.Still ran the same, but after shutting it down this time it would not even start again.Did some testing, fuel getting to injection pump, fuel getting to injectors(but not alot to injectors),All this i am trying to do with a broken sternum. So truck is still in Slave lake i got my brother to come and pick us up and i am now back in Kamloops.I talked to some diesel guys here and one guy told me it was definately the injection pump. But do i drive all the way back up there(13 hours) and put in an injection pump and find out that it doesn't work?
Would be nice to be able to find a trailer to tow it back home, but hard to find here right now, plus i also have an 8'10" camper on the truck.
Anybody live up in that area that could possibly help??
Thank-you
Lee

Sorry to hear about your breakdown. You might post this to the 1st gen thread as well as they may have some other ideas.

While it does sound like an injection pump problem, you might want to check the cheap/easy things first.
Change the fuel filter. I know that you said that fuel was getting to the IP but is it enough?
Check for air in the lines. You can have fuel but if you have fuel and air, it won't run or at least won't run the way that it should.
Hotwire or remove the shutdown solonoid. If it goes bad, the pump can be fine but still not pump any fuel.

You might also check http://www.frappr.com/dieseltruckresource to see if anyone is in that area.

Good luck and keep us posted.

THe shutdown solenoid is also a known problem. If the connections are corroded or if the solenoid starts to fail it will act as you described.

Again, checking all the filters, fuel drain on the bottom of the filter and then its onto the fuel solenoid.

If the solenoid is bad (Please search the first gen stuff) you can remove the solenoid, pull out the plunger and then re-install the solenoid. AFter that you use the lever on the side of the pump to shut it down until you replace the solenoid/plunger.

I don't think its the pump at this point. If you did get fuel in Slave, you might have gotten a shot of water or bad fuel. There are a couple stops in that town that have some bad tanks since they flooded a few years back.

If you are passing through, call me up!!!!!!

Thanks for the info.I leave here friday morning for the 13 hour drive up there.I am taking the injection pump from my totalled 92 and the performance injectors and all the lines with me.But i will check those things listed first. No i didn't get fuel in Slave my last fill up was in Edson. But i will be changing the filter to,although it is only 3 weeks old, but what the heck...
Hopefully when i get it runnin i will be heading to panoka to drop off my bros truck>which Lil dog you have meet...He drives an 03 3500srw 4x4 4door Red.
Thanks again for the help.

Although it would be even better if someone could just fix it for me, this is going to hurt like hell with my broken sternum.

Alright then, got up there friday evening and started checking some of the stuff out.Found a hole in the diaphram on injection pump, took the one from my other pump and took for test run and died 5 times going around the block.Pulled out the shut off solenoid and put in the one from other pump, took for test run and did skip a beat.So off we were on our why home via Panoka to drop off little bro's truck.Just get going from Slave lake and 5th gear goes in the tranny so it was 4th gear and 85 kilometers an hour all the way home(approx 1400k)..Yippee
Anyhow thanks for all the info it was a great help...
The truck goes out to a friends place this week to get nv45oo put in it.As i can not do the work on it my great friends are doing it for me.
Thank god for friends like that.Too bad they couldn't have come to Slave and fixed my truck too.Was a painful process leaning over the fender with a broken sternum, but had to be done.

THANKS again
