Transmission - Is is Gone?!?!? (48re)

Got off the interstate tonight and went to accelerate and all the sudden tranny doesn't want to upshift. It takes forever to upshift. I'm not sure if it is even going into 4th or not. I could barely get it out of 1st and had to nurse it home. It seems like it pulls good though, I don't think it's slipping. Reverse is good.

Could it be a loose vacuum hose? I was tightening some fuel line clamps today on the engine. Could I have knocked a line loose or could it be a more grimm diagnosis?

Yep I toggled the selecter between 1-2-D-N several times to make sure that wasn't the issue. I also drove it several miles like that last night (had to to get home). Stopped at wal mart on the way so it was shut off for 30min or so and it still did it. I turned it off and back on a few more times too. No change.

I went out and checked the codes last night and no codes. goes to -done- immediately.

Like I say it doesn't seem like it slips when its in gear, it pulls good. It just doesn't want to upshift. GOV Solenoid or speed sensor maybe?

Hopefully it's as simple as mikmaze suggested with the selector not being fully engaged in "D". For me, though, I needed to have the trans rebuilt in my previous truck (97 Ram w/360 & auto trans) when it did something similar. If I remember correctly, I only had 1st and 2nd. Or was it only 1st that I had left? Anyways, a planetary gear came apart causing my problems. It took a rebuild to fix it. I ended up rebuilding that trans 3 times during the time I owned that truck then traded it in on the Ram I have now when it started acting up a 4th time.

What color was the trans fluid when you checked it?

Could be as simle as the speed sensor. Mine acted funny and it was a $35 sensor. You can change it yourself. I beleive it's towards the rear on the drivers side. Has electric plug going to it. Be worth a try.

It's going to the dealer Thursday so they can diagnose it.
Thanks for the replies and I will post back my results.

My Dodge gasser was doing the same thing and it was the GOV sensor, but the computer was throwing a code for high/low GOV signal as well as acting weird.

I know I don't have the same truck, but mine did the same thing (pulling strong, did NOT want to shift). I replaced the governor pressure sensor and solenoid and the problems were fixed.

You might look into these two parts. But definately get a second opinion OTHER than the dealer. I don't know about the ones where you live, but they like to rip folks off every which way from Sunday here.
