Transmission fluid capacity

Anybody know what the fluid capacity of a dodge 47r auto trans. is? Seems to be a secret. I caan't find it anywhere. Guess I'll have to pay up for a shop manual.

Re:Transmission fluid capacity

On Dodgeram.org they state that the amount needed for a fluid change (assuming you only drop the pan and refill) is 6.5 quarts. They do not mention total capacity.

Re:Transmission fluid capacity

The actual capacity is about 11-12 quarts with a dry converter. I have overhauled many Dodge transmissions but no diesels. This transmission they stick behind the Cummins is a big brother of the old Chrysler torqueflite 727 and 904 transmissions. They were 3 speed units and are nearly identical inside the main housing and the transmissions we now have. They added an overdrive unit on the back, which makes the current transmission a 4 speed. Also they have beefed them up to stand up behind the Cummins. But the fluid capacity remains pretty much the same.
