I have had my 01 truck for 2 months now and the only problem ive had until the other day is fuel mileage Ive been getting 11 towing and 12 not towing around town. The other day my tuck didnt want to move until about 2k rpm. Yesterday right after i barely started moving i put it in 1st gear manually and it downshifted so the truck wasnt starting in first gear.after doing that it started to shift normally and now its doing it again. Does anyone knowwht this could be? truck is a 2wd 01 2500slt auto
Have you checked the fluid level?
Make sure to check it in Neutral, not park, and when the truck is warmed up.
You don't have a location in your profile, is it cold where you are?
The transmission will shift late till it warms up a bit, and the fluid is harder to move around when it is cold.
After you've checked and verified the fluid level, after you start it let it idle in Neutral for a bit before you try to take off.
The Torque Converter drains back while the truck is sitting, and the fluid doesn't get pumped around until you shift out of park.

There are a couple of electronic components inside your transmission, attached to the valve body. A governor solenoid, and a pressure transducer. They can act up and cause this problem.
I have an appointment at the dealer on monday. hopefully they will look at my fuel usage as well the best I have gotten in 2 months is 11.9mpg around town 1 mpg better when im not towing
after waiting at the dodge dealership for 3 hrs I was told that there was a bad sensor and my ext warranty wasnt going to cover it (450 dollars)(road tested w/drb 111, no fault codes. found low psi at transducer & solenoid, not covered by ext contract) also said they couldnt look at the engine to check for the bad mpg because they dont have a diesel mech and that I would have to go somewere else and pay the 100 dollar deductable again. After going off on them they are covering the repair and all I could get was we might sub it out to look at the mpg issue.

lawnpro,
Mine did the same 2 weeks ago. Mine threw a code P1762. I spoke with Bill at DTS and he gave me the part numbers for the Gov. solenoid and the transducer. Cost, $180. The dealer couldn't touch it for a week and I was heading to Yosemite. Bill said that it is very simple to replace or have a transmission shop install the parts. I had a tranny shop install them because it was cold and rainy and my truck won't fit in my garage. The tranny shop charged me $112 pluse he sugested a speed sensor and everything out the door cost me $162 plus the previous $180. She runs good again. I did notice a slight shuttering now, but I'll ask the tranny shop about that.

they said they didnt have a diesel mech to look at the mpg issue said they hooked there computer to it and it didnt show any codes. I found another dealer but would have to pay about 80 dollars to run tests and if there arent any problems ext warranty wont pay so I dont know if I should take it in or not.
