Trans problem!!

I use my '06 for plowing and it is supposed to snow for the next three days, so I need a fast fast fix.

The trans on my '06 does not seem to be shifting into first gear. When i come to a stop, the truck seems to want to keep going. The RPM's drop lower than normal, and when I put it into neutral, or park, the RPM's surge for just a second before returning to normal. It also pulls the RPM's down when stopped, but in reverse. As with drive-to-neutral or park, the RPM's surge when going to park or neutral from reverse. The reason I say it seems like it won't go to first, is because from a standing stop, the tuck is slow to respond, like it is in second gear. I cant find any shops to look at it that aren't 3-5 days out. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Colby.

try calling Dusty at HTS and ask him for his help he knows these trannys in a out. i would also suggest since you are going to use the truck for plowing to upgrade the tranny some. i would also ask dusty about what you should do for the tranny with what ever plans you have for the truck. dodge just lacks in the tranny department once you go over stock power.

Have you tried manual 1st gear? Any difference?
How about the fluid?- Level, color, smell?

Any codes?

Manual first gear seems to work sometimes. Color of fluid was a little brown. No codes.
I took it to a shop to have a diagnostic performed, and true to form, it had the problem on the way there, but not with the tech in the truck. He performed a diagnostic with a starscan, and a different tool, everything was good. I drove it down the road and got it to do it, but by the time I got bavck to the shop, it had quit again. Had a trans service performed for now, and am on a waiting list at the dealership to have it looked at.

On another note, I think it is true B.S. that for CHrysler to warranty anything, it has to be performed by a dealer. Why don't they pull their heads out, and certify some other guys to do the work?

My truck was doin that after a TQ and valve body upgrade and what it came down to was there is a Orange wire and red stripe (check on that) wire from your tranny to your ECM wich is a very critical voltage it needs to read proper voltage i think 4.5volts and if its even .2 volts of it can shift funny or start out in 2nd mine was doin that if you threw up a rock or somthing and snagged it or have corosion from salt in there it mite be worht just removing the conector and cleaning it. Loose wire would explain the inconsistancy. Bill at DTT helped me find all my stuff great people hope this helps trannys are a pain

Good luck

KennyD, where exactly do I look to find where the connector is? On the tranny, or up at the ecm? Would it have been unjplugged when the service was done? Where is the ECM anyway?

Thanks a bunch, Colby.

Sounds like you may have a loose clutch plate in the TC
