trans leak

hoping there is a simple, 9 out of 10 times fix on this, but here goes.

tranny is leaking fluid, i wipe everything clean, started, cycled through R N and D. got back out, and there is a stream of fluid running down the trans, basically under by the inspection cover. the whole area where the trans mounts to the motor is wet. I can see up there, almost looks like some plugs or covers on the trans housing, and the lines go right up there ( this is on the pass side). Lines look ok, area where the plugs are are filthy, but dont seem to be weepng. where else could this fluid be pouring from?

Automatic trans by the way

That sounds a whole lot like the front pump seal is leaking. Maybe the best thing to do is de-grease the entire tranny as good as possible so as to be certain but that's the area I would want to take the closest look at first.

ok, after a closer look with a flashlight, doesnt seem to be from high up.
anyone ever had the lines rust , get a pinhole leak? i would think the whole thing would fail.

these look brutal to replace the old fittings are completely rotted. how much pressure in these lines, can a rotted section be cut out and patched?

any ideas , thanks

Check the line from the tranny to the cooler on the side of the motor. I had mine split in a bend. It should come out of the tranny go foreward then cross over to the passenger side and turn up, to the cooler.

I ask the local tranny shop here and they replaced alot of these lines for splitting in the bends.

Hope this helps

I had a similar prob with mine. Where the line goes into the side of the tranny above the fluid pan, it goes into a brass reducer bushing, then into the tranny. The bushing had gotten overtightened bysome idiot mechanic I had work on the truck, then it started pouring out fluid all over the truck & trailer I was hauling. Well that was a long day & expensive towing bill.... I changed the pan gasket & everything to no avail. I couldn't get up in therte to see it leaking out from above the pan.

The lines should be aluminum so they won't rust. But they will chafe (sp) or rub together and cause a leak. I had the same thing happen to me. I cut out the section of line and replaced with with 1/2 ID fuel diesel fuel hose for a patch. Then i purchased two lines. Both the ones that run to the heat exchanger on the passenger side. It's the little black plastic clips that hold it into place and keep them from touching. I took them and threw them as far as possible.

When i got the new lines. I slit a hose down the center and wrapped it a section around both lines and then put a zip tie on it to keep it in place. I hope this helps you.

I finally put a clean clothe between the lines, started it and then checked, must have been a small hole in one, so i put wrapped each in clean cloth and isolated which had the leak. they sure seemed to have rust, both were in bad shape.
At any rate, I cut out the leaking sections on both, put in rubber lines and clamped everything down for now. so far so good.
This winter when i do some other stuff under there i plan on bending up some ss lines and re plumbing it all.
