I'm curious how the pistons can get hot enough to melt without showing high EGTs,....

Maybe the plastic oil jets in the block that shoot oil under the pistons to cool them came loose on yet another engine?

does anyone know? Could an injector pump be defective and cause to much fuel to be pushed into the cylinders?

If that were the case, I'd think you'd see black smoke and high EGTs.

that makes sense. i had no black smoke and no hight wgt's. Yet cummins thinks it happened because it was getting too much fuel ?
Scored cylinder walls and melting nu 1 piston = too much fuel ?

Is it possible your pyro is not reading correctly? A diesel pump shop should be able to put the pump on the stand and make sure it delivers the correct amount of fuel.

I am guessing they charge close to 100$ an hour , or more , and 24 hrs is not that long to pull one engine and put another one in , and get it running.

Got gauges, nothing has been showing hot on gauges.

This is the kind of thing that scares me to death. Is it possible to have 1 piston running at 1500* and the others running at 800* and it averages out to say 975* so you never know?

Those are all 03 and newer common rail engines. Definitely not a direct bolt-in, it would be quite a project to make your truck into a common-rail.
