Well don't I feel like a Dumb ***. I was waiting on the call. But thanks Bob for letting me know they reached Jeff. Thats who they needed anyway.

I spoke to Jeff and they were in by noon, out by 4. I understand they took a ride in the 1500 too.

Herb, let us know how it's doing.

I think Herb's carriage business is just a front......
His REAL job is writing a book that will compare EVERY SINGLE business in the CONUS that works on or supplies parts for the Dodge Cummins trucks.

If you only Knew.
He left Jeffs and drove to Vicksburg Mi and made another drop. went from there to south Mo and picked up a load of trailers. Made it back as far as South Bend Ind and brake down again.
I just got home from the drive to South bend to pull the trailers home. Will go back tommorrow and retreive the truck.
He said he was cruising along at 60 mph , good egt's good fuel pressure and it took two surge-pops and died. said oil all over engins compartment.
Am guessing turbo ?

OMG, that is awful. Let us know what happened. I don't know how many miles are on your 01, but this is my biggest fear driving any of them with a lot of miles. Jeff put a new VP44 on mine last week so I'm hoping I am good for another 100k or so.

I most definately wouldn't start this argument again.

So let me get this straight herb. The injection pump died and then on the way home the turbo blew? Talk about a string of bad luck. Let us know how it goes man.

My son is on his way back with the 01 on a trailer. He said he took the air cleaner off and looked at the turbo "impeller"? said it looked nice and clean and that it turned ok with no slop in it. Does this eliminate the problem being the turbo? He said most of the oil appears to be towards the front on the passenger side ?
Any gueses

Will loose power, EGT's will be VERY high and will SMOKE like a fright Train. A blow turbo would more than likely smoke very bad. Could be a number of things.......

Too bad that you didnt loose your clutch in Southbend, IN! hahaha......

They might be refering to the "Killer Dowel Pin" in the timing gearbox.

if it is that would it cause oil to spray out in the front passenger side engine compartment ? Repair cost to expect ?

I didn't think the 01's had the KDP problem, but I could be wrong. If thats what it is there should be signs of oil comming from the timming cover do to a crack then probably spread oil all over from the fan.
