Steam every where! Block ??
Steam every where! Block ??
Ok just finished the retourque on the new HG and studs last night.
Get up this morning and head to work everythings peachy been on the road for about 15 minutes and oll of a sudden stone cold air from the heater vents so I look at the temp gauge and shes hotter than normal so I pull over figuring it a TS thats stuck (new Cummins replacement with the HG?) but no pressure in the top hose and its fairly warm so I limp it to work watching the temp gauge. Looking at the back of the block it looks like a frost plug is missing? Its dead center in the block right between the belhousing and the head. Any one had to replace this one with the tranny in?
Thanks

This is not good. I'm not an expert, by driving without coolant will destroy an engine fast. The coolant engine temp gauge is based on collant temp. No coolant means no accurate temps. The freeze plug is way lower than the water temp sensor.
How long did you drive it before you shut it off?

Yeah I know but I didnt know I lost the plug till I got ti home. I would guess around 20mins from the stone cold start up after work. I thought it was just the HG, and since the over flow bottle still had coolent I figured it would be ok to limp it home and just watch the temp gauge. Temp gauge rose and fell with any boost level if the engine was at no boost and close to idle it would stay arround 3/4 if I tried to accelerate it would rise up (lucky no hills I guess?) When I got it home and parked I felt the head and it was hot but not the instant burn hot you would get from a exaust manifold or ... Wont know what damage was done if any untill I finish my tour on tuesday and can look at it then. I guess the only thing I can do is get another plug in it and fill it with coolent and see how it runs?
