Started but died. Need Help ASAP!!!!

Ok, I checked the oil on my '01 2500 and left the hood up. Came back in an couple hours and realized the hood was up. I decided to crank it to make sure the batteries weren't too low and I didn't need to put it on the charger. Cranked, ran for maybe a full 10 seconds, rpms fluctuated and it died. Tried to crank again and nothing. Drained water off the canister. I can't hear the lift pump or I don't know what I am listening for. I don't know what to do. All help is appreciated.

I'm still VERY new to this board, but I'm thinking that those who really know are going to need a bit more information. Was there nothing wrong with the truck before lifting the hood to check the oil? Is there a particular reason you were checking the oil? What codes are you getting?

Just checking the oil b/c I thought it needed to be checked. Ok, so I need some info from you guys. When I turn on the key, should I hear the LP? If not hearing it, with the key turned on, can I pull the plug on the side of it and check the voltage? I guess that I am trying to figure out if the pump is putting out anything. All help is appreciated. Thanks.

You are a little vague on what is happening. Does the motor turn over briskly?? not at all??
I think you can get codes from your odometer by going "off,on, off on, off, on" then the codes will start showing on the odometer. Write them down and they will be a big help.
Try just "bumping the starter" without tryiing to start. Just click the key to start and barely hit the start. This will at least try to get the lift pump running. You should clearly hear it. Doesn't mean it is good however. Then maybe put a pan under the water drain, open it and try again. You should have a mess of fuel come out. If not, well plan on $150 + for a new lift pump or consider the alternative fuel systems. A better way will be to hook up a pressure gage (15 psi) to the fuel canister and try to get a pressure reading. 0 means oh oh. It's possible too that the injector pump passed away due to no pressure from the lift pump.
some others may have better help.

Tried this as per the owners manual to get the air out of the canister. No good. Don't hear the LP running. So, my dad and I put air pressure into the tank, pushed fuel up to bleed the canister. Tried again. Nothing, no good. So then we put air pressure again to push fuel up to the IP. Blead it and tried to start again. Nothing. I am pretty much 100% sure the LP is gone. I just want to make sure that I have power to the LP. Does anyone know how to check if I have power to the LP?

From: San Diego, California, yea, one of them!
There is a connector on the bottom of the lift pump that will unplug. It has a tab you have to squeeze and then pull the connector out. There are two pins inside the connector. If you have a test light or a meter you can connect it to the two pins. You will then have to have somebody bump the starter. This will cause power to the pins and you should get a light or a reading. If you find that you are getting power, take the supply line loose from your filter cannister and bump the starter. You should get fuel, if not you have one of three problems. One, the pump is bad. Two, you have a leak in the line leading to the tank. Three, you are out of diesel.

If you put your hand on the lift pump and have somebody bump the starter you will feel the pump kick on for a few seconds and then shut off. Let me know what you find out.
