squeeks!!

well, I went to shut the truck down tonight and it was squeeking right at the end of shut down- it kindof did it again when I went to roll it over again. it has not done this before and it scares me! It also has ben shakeing at stopsigns alot today and I looked down and my idle was at like 400 rpms I know this is low, but would this cause the vibration and posibly the squeeking? at the stop signs it stops shaking when I step on the pedel a little bit. I do know how to set my throttle so maybe will try that first. any help?

Re:squeeks!!

The squeek is most definately the serpentine belt. The vibration is cause by the low idle RPMs. I would bump the idle up to 750-800 RPM. Make sure you set it with the A/C on max. I bet it gets worse when the A/C is on doesnt it?

Re:squeeks!!

I put a new NAPA belt on mine when I bought it. It always squeaked on shutdown. It lasted about 16K. It was pulled off when I did my KDP and about 150 miles after the KDP it started making all kinds of noise. :'( ???
Belt dressing did nothing for it except spread belt dressing gunk around my engine compartment. I now remember why I HATE belt dressing though.
So, I bought another new NAPA belt, put it on, and now it doesn't even squeak on shutdown, if you can believe that.

Chris

Re:squeeks!!

The idle adjustment on your truck is accomplished by looking down the back of the pump, toward the firewall. Look in the area of the transfer pump as you move the throttle. It's not too easy to see if there is a lot of crud on the engine. You will find a bolt which the throttle arm rests against. This bolt usually gets a groove worn in it from the throttle arm. You have to worm your hand between the hydro-boost lines to get at the adjustment. Forget what size the bolt is, I think maybe 12mm?
Hope this helps.
Rich
