Sure sounds like a failed injector. Hard to say though. What color is the smoke? Engine miss at all? Oil level rising at all? High egt's indicate excessive fuel. Bout the only place to come from is the injectors or something telling it to overfuel.....any codes?

Very possible. i wouldn't run it any more than absolutely necessary to avoid more damage. The damage may already be done. Find someone to help diagnose or find a good Cummins shop nearby. I'm afraid that you may have already scored a cylinder though.

its hard to burn a cylinder unless you hammered on it and kept the egts really high for a long time,,this new ultra low sulphur diesel is the problem,,,sulphur helps as a lubricant in the motor,,,when you take it out you have problems. another problem is you and i both have an 03,,known for injector problems,,,reason being the rail pressure runs so high that the spray holes in a STOCK motor are barely big enough,,,much less when u add programs,,,my advice,,,take it to a good known cummins mechanic and have em pull the injectors and compression test it at the same time to make sure your rings arent goin down( they dont sound like they are but they gotta pull your injectors anyway might as well check that too) and if theyre bad,,,get bigger injector nozzles and you wont have any problems,,,any blowby by chance

According to Don M.....most of the injector problems are in the later years. Like the 04.5's and up. I hope he's right at least!

well i pulled injectors today , need to get them sent out . two of two very carboned up , number 1 cylinder i believe was leaking , when i pulled out the tubes and injectors all but one had fuel in tube or fuel go out of injector , which tells me that is the one leaking into cylinder .

I'd be curious as to the results of a compression test or have someone with a borescope check it out. There may be untold damage. It could be fine too, but now would be the time to tell. I'd hate for ya to get it back together only to find out that it still smokes because a cylinder wall was scored. Any damage should be pretty evident by using even the cheapest of borescopes. Good luck and I hope I'm wrong! I just like to be thorough. Nothing I hate more than doing something twice!
