Another tranny problem

My Tranny is acting up(the rig is in my sig). Yesterday from a dead stop it started in second even if I manually put it into first. It also did not shift up into third. I let it cool down and took it for a ride later and it shifted fine for the first while, but after I came to a stop it started in first but did not shift into second. The tranny fluid is a nice red color and does not smell burnt at all. Is it toast? What do I check?

Thanks
John

Change Gov. Pres Solenoid first. It could be sensor or relay, but try solenoid first.

Solenoid controls 1,2,3 shifts. If the spool valve sticks then, it will take off in second

Is that dealer only? Or where would you buy?

Ya, dealer has them. Around $100 dollars. Super simple to change. Pull pan, pop it out, pop another one in, and fill up with oil.

You will need a 25 torx though. The best deal though is to get a new VB from Goerend. Lets say you change solenoid and sensor at about $100 each. Or you buy a Goerend VB at $475 that has new Solenoid, sensor, O/d and Lock up solenoid, and wire harness. Plus you get more librication and higher line pres. to hold clutches. Only problem is why yours is failing now. Either spool valve is not liking heat or there is junk in there. If there is junk in there we both know where its coming from. So its a catch 22. I say change solenoid, when you get ready to do trans right, then we spend the money and get all the good parts, rather than putting dirty parts in new trans.

Local dealer here wants $160.00. If I just had money this would be an easy decision. Things like this never happen at a good time.

I am out south of Winkler about 1 mile from the US border. I have driven past Trans tech several times I did not know they did performance diesel. Are their diesel transmissions top notch? On this site I repeatedly hear how good Goerend trannys are so that is the way I was thinking, but Trans tech is a lot closer to home.

Truck wont move. I let it idle in N for a while but wont go forward or reverse. Could it still just be the governor pressure solenoid?

check your fluid make sue its up depending how long your pan was off it might take 6 -7 literes to get it up.
you tork holds 75% of the fluid if the drain back valeve is stuck open it will drain in back in to the pan
was there a lot of metal in the pan
trans tec dose do goog work
when i was workig there we were doing a lot of dodge tranys
there all dyno tested
if you get a trans built with them be sure to tell them what you need it to do
and how much horse power you have they do go the distance
if you go by there stop in and have a look around
it is a very well equipet shop
