Slipping out of gear w/ new DTT VB
I installed a DTT VB last Thu, and with a short test run all appeared to be normal, this was after running in N for about 10 minutes while adding the last few quarts of tranny fluid.
Drove it Fri, and had a normal start off, but - it slipped out of gear, into N....ran the lever thru all positions, back into N, and eventually it found itself and it took off. This happened 3 times before it apparently "settled down", no further issues that day.
Sun afternoon and Mon morning, the same events occurred, start up, warm up, take off - and the truck pops out of gear several times before it "warms up".
Fluid level is fine....
I called the DTT crew, but their service staff is either on vacation, or returning from a race....I won't be able to contact them until tomorrow.
Any ideas, guys?
Thx / Rauschbo

Are you checking the fluid level in Neutral with the engine running?
It's normal for them to 'burp' an air bubble after a few miles of running.
Also, some Dodge Automatics came with a dipstick that was about 1/2 pint too short.

Yah. They can burp air for a little while and some dipsticks didn't read right. I actually had to trim mine about 1/8-1/4" because it was to long and would give me a false reading. If it still does that after 4 or 5 days then I'd worry.

Thx for the 'put gentlemen - the fluid was my first thought as well - and I am checking it in N after getting it warmed up.
I'll try the DTT guys and see if they have the same idea......
- I'll post their thoughts / results -

You guys were right - and I was SURE that I had done everything to remove the "low fluid" as an option;
DTT told me to run through the gears and re-check it - guess what, 1.5 qts low?!?! Not sure how I missed that, guess the neutral level check isn't all that good!
Thx again -
