Exclamation Short question--Need HELP!

HELP! I知 in the process of replacing my VP44 and peening the KDP guide hole and I知 having a heck of a time removing the fan. From the front of the engine bay (facing the front of the engine) which direction does the 36mm fan nut have to be turned for removal (CW or CCW)? I realize that the threads are left hand but I致e never removed the fan before, so I知 not sure of the orientation of the nut.

Your help is greatly appreciated,
Bill

The threads are reverse, so standing in front looking down take your punch or wrench and go down which is counter clockwise. You should tab it along with the staking of the hole. I use anitsieze when going back with it, makes it easier the next time.Goodluck,,,Rick

No , no, no!!!
To remove the fan turn the nut clockwise as seen from the front of the truck.
To break it lose hit the right side of one of the nut flats with a long drift or steel bar and a hand sledge. Don't be shy, give it a good whack.

Infidel,

If I understand what you are writing, I have to turn the 36mm wrench on the nut to the right (CW), if I am at the front of the engine FACING THE CAB of the truck.
Please keep in mind, I'm takling about the 36mm wrench that is on the fan nut.

Thanks very much for your reply,
Bill

Fan Nut

...yep, CW as you are facing the truck; As you will have the timing gear cover off, one word of advice: Be careful putting the new cover seal in, I tore mine when installing using the Cummins supplied Seal Starter -just go slow, unlike what I did - the first time - and you'll be okay.....

Correct.
Even after striking the nut with a drift sometimes it will still require a sharp blow on the wench towards the right with a soft hammer. If the belt still wants to turn you can hold the pulley with large Channel-Locs or wedge a bar in-between a couple of the small fan hub bolts to keep it from turning.
One trick I've found very helpful is to cut the head off a bolt that is the same size as the ones that hold the cover on and screw it in. Makes lining up cover a breeze. Same trick works well on the fan hub bolts.
