On the road now - Fuel system trouble, HELP
My brother is on the road from AK to CO and having fuel system problems.2001 RAM 2500, Cummins, 4x4, approx 50,000 miles. Below is part of our IM conversation, any help or ideas would be appreciated: We got a bad tank of fuel, have burned that and two more tanks since. Truck is blowing blue/white smoke like its cold or something? Hesitating after idling or coasting down a hill then blowing blue smoke? I Have changed the fuel filter but that didn't help much. After i shut it down to fuel it ran like brand new then started up again
Oh,I think it ran good till we started stop and go traffic?
gbaldwin@creativefsc.com says (8:44 AM):
Ok, are you still full... or can you add some good fuel to dilute the bad stuff? Do you have some additive?
bucksnort68 says (8:44 AM):
Weve filled up 2x and im putting additive in it?

See if he can find some biocide & water absorber, just in case of microbe/water contamination. You never know about some of those fuel stations. Once he ran a tank through, dump some 2 cycle oil in.

If the EZ is an after market item, then he does not have one. The truck is stock except for an air intake and exhaust brake. I was just doing some searching and trying to come up with any other ideas. Do you think a reset of the APPS would be helpful? Anyone else have any ideas?

APPS reset:
Turn key on, but don't start
Push pedal to floor slowly
Release pedal slowly
Turn key off, then start truck
It won't hurt and it may be the problem.

Could very well be fuel filter again-depending on how much garbage is in tank. Be careful when priming canister -drain canister , change filter, replace lid loosely and turn key on to let lift pump fill it up then tighten lid.Priming with a can of fuel chances water or debris passing to pump or injectors.

Blue/white smoke after bad fuel?
Sounds like unburned (as opposed to incompletely adjusted, which is black) fuel, caused by partially fouled injector tips from bad fuel.
