rearmain or oil pan gasket
i hope you guys can help me out..i have a 06 3500 dodge dually 4x4 5.9. i use this truck to make a living, haulin trailers on a 48` wedge trailer out and haulin cars back to or around elkhart in. it started leaking oil towards the back of the pan. not long after i got the truck i had a leak at the same place. i took it to the dealer and they put the die in it and said it was just the gasket.(oilpan)..and they tightend up the bolts..well now its got 130,000 and i have a leak in the same place. i`m not sure if its the gasket or the rear seal..i cleaned it off real good and let it run for around 20 min.. to 1/2 an hour..i also tightend up the pan bolts some. they really didnt seem loose but i snuged em up some..it didnt leak a drop that i could see so i thought it was ok..next morning i started out of town loaded, before i got on the tollway i stoped and looked under it with a flash light and it was leaking all over the back..so i got it home and cleaned it off again and put some dye in the oil and checked it with a black light..there is oil inside the inspection cover but it is also coming down the back of the oilpan to..i cant tellif its coming from the pan gasket and running through a gap in the top of the tranns.. addapterplate
i cant tell if its the rear seal , or the pan gasket. its also coming down the back side of the pan. if it doesnt leak when its idealing does this mean its the rear seal. i went and bought a pan gasket for 60 bucks.. the rearseal is 105 @ the dealership..any help would be great...its a lot of work to change the pan gasket to find out it was the rearseal..lol ...i`v got 2 runs to newyork next week... im stuck between a rock and a hardspot

- isn't that under warranty?!? Seems the Dealer should be working this, unless you cannot stand the downtime that would entail?
How about - clean it up real good and tightly cover the suspected leak area of the oil pan with heavy heat-proof plastic (or find some other way to isolate / seal this area), affix it to make sure it will NOT come off (duct tape?), then take a ride - should find your leak that way....

i dont have to pull the motor out, but you have to pull the mounts so it can be lifted up .. i`m going to change the rear seal.. lots of work ..its out of warrenty .130,000 on it... wish me luck..lol
