Where it threads into the block, its leaking...

Would that oil run down around the bellhousing and sit on top of the oil pan flange?

Leaking pretty good...

$40 is better than $700+

Sound right?

The sender is right behind the power steering pump, seems like a long way to go to make it to the bell housing but sometimes the fan blows it all over.
Never seen any sender threads leak but have seen the cheap autoparts generic senders blow their guts out.

Thats what the mechanic said it was at the dealership...

Looks like the trail is going right up next to the blowby tube...

Is there anything else threaded into the block there?

Not really, but the vacuum pump could be leaking and blowing back to that area.
Best way to be sure is to clean the area and spray it down with aerosol athlete's foot powder. Go for a short drive or maybe even idle it, oil will leave a distinct trail in the white powder right to the source.
