Does this rear main seal look right

Guy at cummins dealer said 82$ for the kit, which is rediculous, he said he's had a felpro setup like this in his 96 for 6 years and doesn't leak a drop, he tookthe trans and stuff back out 2 years ago to put a SBC in it and wasn't leaking at all.

copy and paste into address bar---

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Rear-Main-Seal-Set-Felpro_19782447-P_105_R|GRPENGPAMS_964290725___

whats that arch peice in the middle???

thanks
Brandon

the piece in the middle would be the gasket that goes between the adapter plate and the block. i think i paid $65 or $70 for my RMS. no complaints with mine. i don't mind the money knowing it's genuine cummins. to each his own though.

Your a teenager in the age of texting, computers, and skinny jeans. And you dont know how to insert a hyperlink?

Just pickin'. Looks like a good complete kit. I was planning on changing my rear seal when I put my clutch in, but was told if its not leaking dont mess with it because the new seal may end up leaking???

My seal looked like this and it only leaked a little. You can see the pieces of the seal sticking out. If your seal is original it probably looks the same. The new seal from Cummins was updated and I don't think it will deteriorate like this one did. Hopefully anyway

to add to my original post... i replaced mine back in february when the new clutch went in. my original wasn't leaking but i replaced because of just that, it was the original. and like in many cases, when working on things, i don't wanna rely on the original 20 year old part to last much longer than it already has. i haven't seen a single drop with the new one.

Thats hilarious Until I got involved with different cummins forums I had no idea what any of that stuff was. I still find hunting and pecking as the best way to type.

Most of the time when posting a link it will not appear as a link until you put one space behind the link with the touch of the "space bar". After that it gets underlined and lights up in blue. Who's lazy?

Me lazy, no way. I work very hard from home. I did copy/paste the link. I even went one step further and added the hyperlink. Good ole' "CTRL-V" to paste.

Is this leak on an auto or manual? I wouldnt want to leave a leak with a manual. Over time some of that oil will make its way as a mist to the clutch.

I sure hope I didnt offend you because of the skinny jeans thing. I can stomach alot of styles, but the 2 that really aggrivate me is pants sagging down with underwear showing, and those fugly skinny jeans!!!!!

It actually hasn't leaked a drop in about a month. its a manual. I'll inspect it further when the flywheel is off.

And i don't quite know where the jeans comment came from, i don't do either. I'm not a punk cali kid.

Was that "punk Cali kid" directed my way? I will assume not, otherwise I might make a crack about "wanna be 90210" sideburns. DOH!!
