hi
why do you need a preheater anyway ???

i bought my truck in ut in feb , crosed the rockeys at -4 deg and stoped in chicago for two weeks due to a storm and extreme cold -13 and started the truck without even pluging it in over night !

one of the previous owners removed the preheater !!!!!!

I agree unless your running bio-diesel(it gels quickly in cold temperatures). If you are then switch back to regular diesel and save on repair bills.

You can buy the pre-heater element and wiring harness from a Cummins dealer for a lot less than a complete unit from Dodge.

You buy winterized fuel which is usually availible unknown to you whether you want it or not in cold area winters or you add anti-gel additive.
Time when not having the heater might bite you in the rear is driving from a warm area that doesn't have winterized fuel into the cold without taking precautions.

I personally like having the fuel heater in Montana, don't like walking at 20 below zero.
You probably don't need the entire heater, all the parts except the housing are availible from Cummins,

Prices are old but part numbers are good
heater element upper quad ring 3834185-S
heater strainer kit 3845400-S
heater element 3907766-S $35.18
cable harness 3843722-S $49.39

Sorry I live in The Yukon
However I have since found a dealer in Surrey BC and was able to purchase the parts listed above for 40.02 and 56.03 plus shipping so am very happy not to spend 355. for the unit from Dodge plus I will get them by Monday.

Thanks all
