Red face power steering pump?

i have a 1989 dodge 350 flatbed w/ a cummins diesel. my power steering pump keeps spilling over thru the cover, i've removed all the nuts from the bolts. the pump won't clear the bolts. its as though there is something holding the pump from the inside. i have the new pump and don't see how anything can be holding it. need any kind of info. that would be of help. thanks for ur time.

do you have this problem of spilling out the cap when it is cold?
if so, just drain/remove the dino fluid and replace with synthetic before you replace the pump. it's a lot easier and lot less expensive if it works. . . .

You have to remove the vacuum pump and power steering pump as a unit and then take them apart on the bench.

This thread shows how to take it all apart.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Replacing PS fluid is certainlly worth trying. Fluid gets old and sticky and pump cavitates, pumping air into hoses.. Fluid is displaced into resivor and eventually pukes past cap. Generally difficult to get purged and all bubbles disapated. Tires off ground is best while doing. Run 5 seconds and let set for 10 mins for air to go away. then do again until no bublles in fluid. May have to run some to get sticky free.
