Question Power bogges down over 55mph or under load

idles and cranks like normal. Will accelerate normal under light condictions but under any pressure
engine bogges and choke down if I do not let off petal. Air filter clean and fuel filter changed. Fuel
appears clean. Engine has 50% power or less. Does this sound more like a injector pump problem or turbo? '97 3500

How do you get codes with a '97? I've had the truck 7 yrs and have not needed codes before. Thanks for any help.

No codes, it's all mechanical.

It's a fueling problem for sure. Lift pump bad or maybe an air leak on the suction side, hopefully somebody more familiar with 2nd gens will chime in here.

Where is the strainer located in the lift pump? I found a diagram showing a screen in the fuel heater and prefilter assembly but can not find a diagram breakdown of the lift pump showing a strainer. Thanks

You can find some help for the pre heater screen here:

Parts locations

Pre filter cleaning

The screen is not in the lift pump itself but in the preheater which is a separate unit.

One other thing that leaps to mind is that your cat may be plugged up.

Clogged cat, weak overflow valve, or lift pump going -- you ain't getting enough fuel or getting rid of exhaust due to something.

Check fuel pressure first, it that checks out then I would suspect clogged cat.

Since it starts and idles OK it is not a slipped pump gear.
