The dealer called me back today and they said that the poping was the left rear wheel not being tightened when the tires were rotated. When they got it on the lift they said that they could tell it was not tighted up or had come loose. Apparently they tightened it and no longer hear the noises. I am sceptical but we will see.

well after about a week i was finally able to jack the truck up and give that wheel spin test a try and the front passinger wheel spun just fine you could hear the brake pad against the disc but that was it. but the front drivers side was defferant when i spun that one it sounded like a ten speed wheel. there was a real lite clicking sound coming from it so does that mean its the bearings or the u joints? because my truck is still under warrantie and i need some ammo to take to the dealer.
thanks

A front wheel bearing will USUALLY make a different noise when you load it up while driving. By that I mean if you make right or left turns it usually changes in sound.

T check the u joint with the truck jacked up you should have the wheels turned so the u joint actually has to spin in its cups. Make sure you have the wheel turned when checking u joints for a proper diagnosis. Checking them with the wheels straight will not usually reveal a bad u joint.

The rear wheel was loose?? Who did not clean them it up before reinstallation?

It is imperative that aluminum wheels get cleaned on the mating surfaces before reinstallation. Most wheels come loose and fall off because this procedure is forgotten all too often. I myself use a die grinder to the clean the corrosion off then put a LIGHT film of anti seize on the rim mating surface so next time all it takes it a wipe with a new layer of anti seize and your good to go.

I hope you get it sorted out and let us know what you find

did the test witht he wheels turned and heard the sound i mentioned above so i called the dealer in the next town and he said its most likely a bad bearing. i have to take it in when the tax return gets here.

just got word on my truck i guess they popped open the front diff and the fluid was a white foamy color and i guess the bearings were shot and the ujoint was about to go along with the front seal on the diff housing. so the guy that had the truck before me never ever did anything maintence wise on the diffs or the brakes or any of that lucky for me nothing in the reapairs isn;t covered by warrantie so everything is covered. and all i heard was a slight popping sound.
