Oil Leak

I got out of my truck and the rear window on my topper was covered in oil. So i popped the hood and saw oil dripping and spraying by a hose that is located by the fuel filter. I then checked the oil level assuming it would be low since it is leaking. However i noticed it is above the safe level about as much as space on the dipstick as is between the safe and low level. Is there any kind of overflow vent or anything around there that would be leaking or what else could be wrong? Any help would be awesome since i am afraid to drive it but i need to be driving it.

you probably have diesel leaking out of the little 90* elbow off the lift pump. I'm sure the guy tailgating you has it on his windshield too.

It is not diesel leaking. I can smell oil and it looks like oil. I have had diesel leak before and it definatly does not smell like that.

I'm also saying its diesel. there is really know place for oil to "spray" out in that area. there is however a couple rubber fuel lines , I think return lines that will spray like that when they break. and since it is a return line youll just keep running like normal. also don't you think you would be a little low on oil?
good luck, keep us posted.

The liquid whatever it may be, has a brownish oil look to it which is why i assume it is oil plus i get a scent of oil when i am outside or when the window is down. Also i think it would be pretty easy to smell diesel fuel if it actually was diesel.

I think you are looking at the crankcase vent hose. They all drip some oil, but not enough to "spray". I drilled a 1 inch hole in the center and a few small holes around the edge of the lid of a pastic peanut butter jar, slid it up the hose, put a tie wrap around the hose to keep the lid up there, then screwed the jar onto the lid. It captures the 1/4th to half cup of oil that drips out between oil changes.

Where is that vent? Is that low by the driveshaft? Because if it is that is not where the leak is coming from. It is coming from somewhere closer to the engine. I'm not sure if it is actually spraying because the cooling fan was going when it was leaking so maybe that was just causing it to look like it was spraying, but it definatly is dripping out.

is there a oil coolet line under your fan? if so it could be cracked and the fan blowing oil back buy your filter. my old pickup (a 96) had a oil cooler under the fan. i could see that to be posible. good luck, and lat use know.
