Its running VERY rough, will not stay running - when you floor it, the RPM's don't even climb.

Sounds like its starving for fuel. Do you have air constantly getting into the fuel system, how old are the injectors in the engine?

I really don't know how to check for prime and stuff on a Ford - the injectors are around 140,000 miles - the oil pressure gauge shows good.

It sounds like its out of time, stumbling, stalls, can't hold an idle.

It just had a cam sensor recall done, but it was doing this a little bit before - but it sounds worse.

My buddy won't buy a dodge.

you may want to check the connections to the injectors, remember the valve cover it the wiring harness for the injectors. it could also be the IDM injector driver module. It sounds like you have a injector problem. go to this guys page its very helpful for the powerstrokes. http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/home.html

Actualy it sounds like the cam position sensor I had to replace the one in my old 96 f250 it came with a shim as a fix from ford. Did the install and it ran like your buddy's (worse than they usualy do) got under there at 4 a.m. on the way to work and pulled it out and removed the spacer and it ran alot better. Guess the fix didn't help mine. I would take a good look at the cps if I were you guys.

seems to me that there's some kind of a problem with the fuel crossover on those things. there's a tweak for it if that's what it is.

Check the lift pump. My buddy had similar symptoms like that and he needed new fuel lines and a lift pump, they also did some sort or injector cleaning without removing them. After that he said it ran just fine.

hmmm

That sounds like an injector issue... Did this happen all at once or did it slowly get worse. The reason why i think this is because of the blue smoke. Blue usually equals oil...
