low power
OK, monday of this week i had my check engin light come on. i took it to a parts store and put it on a scanner and it gave me a crank shaft position sensor code. I didn't notice any difference in my truck and the light went out. I've planned to change it this weekend. But, on my way home yesterday from work i was set on cruise control at 75 and i was just making it home. I was coming into town and i went to check my peddles and my gas peddle was floorboarded. I took it off cruise and i had almost no power. I couldn't even keep it at 60. My tack was still fuctioning and no check engine light came on. I'm worried my fuel pump is going out.
Has anyone ever came across this before?

Check you codes in the odm.. switch key on, off, on, off, on looking for a code p216 more then likely a injection pump (fuel pump) We were having the same exact dead pedal symptoms our 02 went to the shop today w/ p216 showing on the odm check. See power problems post on this thread.

The key trick doesn't work on '99's......
If the CKP has stored a code, that can put you inot "limp mode", but I think the CEL would be on - I had an intermittent CEL for a LONG time from the CKP, finally got tired about worrying about it and did the swap - pretty easy to do....
I assume you no longer have a CEL? Do you see excessive smoke when floored but not moving very well, if so - what color is it? What RPM were you turning under the almost-floored condition at 75 mph (wondering if your tranny is giving up).
Do the APPS reset on it, that's one possibility that can quickly be checked.
You can troubleshoot the "fire" system, all the thing needs is air and fuel, the first two easy checks are the air and fuel filters. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge yet? That is a NECESSITY for the VP44 trucks, you MUST monitor the FP to (possibly) prevent frying the VP44;
It sounds like you could be starving for fuel, so I would recommend checking the system from front to back, after the fuel filter check: Check the fuel pressure on the VP side of the filter assembly - you can put a Schrader valve in on top of the assy, it will give you a quick look at the LP functionality - the real test is at WOT, of course, but you will at least know if the pump is working under no load (note: Does the pump run for ~30 sec when the key is turned on?). If you can wrangle something, you should give the truck a run to see if the FP pulls down below 5-7 psi @ WOT - if it DOES, get a new FP ASAP, recommend you consider an aftermarket system....AND A GAUGE.....
Some have espoused swapping out the return banjo (on the rear of the VP44) - not sure if this can help you or not
Give these a shot and let us know what you find - I HOPE it's not the VP, but....

Try This. Reset Your Apps Sensor By Unpluging Both Batteries, Turn Your Key On, Wait About An Hour Then Reconect The Batteries.while The Key Is Still On Slowly Press The Go Pedal To The Floor Then Slowly Release.

I GOT THE P0216 CODE. WHY ME, WHY MEEE......
I took it to the local auto parts store and had them run the codes. I got the p216 which is the vp44.
I don't know what to do from here. What is the standard code of operation?
Do i take it off myself and send it somewhere for a rebuild? Is there an upgrade that i can get?
I don't have a low fuel pressure gauge...
My brother told me to do that the day i got the truck. So is there a possiblity that i can just replace the lift pump and all will be well or is the vp44 fried. the truck is still running and at times it seems fine. But then it goes back into no power mode or no fuel mode and i can barrely drive it.
If the only thing is to replace it who has the cheapest?
SOMEBODY HELP ME?
