Lift Pump Problem
Lift Pump Problem
Hey everyone i have a 99 Dodge 4X4 quad cab Cummins. And I was wondering what are the signs of a lift pump goin out?? And the signs of a fuel pump going out?? Hope you can help me out, thanks guys
Zero smoke on start up. Down on power. Bump the starter but do not start the engine. The lift pump should run for appx 30 seconds to prime the fuel system. I am guessing you don't have a fuel pressure gauge. Pick one up to test it.
Ya it still smokes during start up(just white smoke cuz its cold). I didn't think a fuel pressure gauge works on 98.5-02?? I was told that they spike up so high during start up that it would just blow the needle n wouldnt work again. Was I told wrong?? Thanks 91rangerturbo
Thanks jamie'sturbo. Mines doin that same thing with the rpms

Properly installed a fuel gauge works just fine. I would not have a VP pumped truck without one, they give you the critical information when the lift pump is failing so you can avoid frying an injection pump.
Bingo. My fuel pressure gauge tacks out when i first turn the key on. But once started it is at 15psi. Unless the grid heaters kick on then it bogs to 13psi.
