lift pump problem
lift pump problem
Put pillar mount in last night with all my gauges , pyro, boost, fuel press. Crank her up 5psi max ,rev the engine 0 psi. Thinking I did something to the gauge, it is a auotmeter with the bellows and braided line that you have to be real careful assembling as not to loose any fluid when connecting the line to the bellows. So I go in to work today I can keep the pressure at about 3 psi if I keep my foot out of it. Get a gauge here at work check at the prefilter tap and guess what, identicle pressures. Looks like I have a bad lift pump. Are these covered under the 100,000 mile warranty? If not what is the repair time, doing it myself?
Re:lift pump problem
From what I hear bkay it depends alot on the *******. Some will cover the lift pump while others won't. As for doing it yourself, if you're mechanically inclined it shouldn't be that big of job. If you buy the lift pump, you can get one from Cummins for a lot less than at the *******. Also, I read your signature line. Would like to hear that story sometime.

CR
Re:lift pump problem
Already checked the warranty route, no dice. Figured that was going to happen. Local Frieghtliner dealer will have one here in the morning $128.00 vs. $140.00 (buddy workin for a dealer) vs. $240.00 at another dealer. I think I'll wait until in the morning. Wonder if it will be all right to drive the truck home tonight? As long as I keep my pressure up around the 5 psi mark.
Re:lift pump problem
bkay,

I talked with DC on the 800 # in the manual and they said that the lift pump "is" covered under the 100 K warranty. I also got a file case # from DC telling the "*******" what to look it up under in their computer system. If you want that file # e-mail me at tmrmtr@nwonline.net and I will get it for you. If fact, I have mine at the "*******" right now being checked for a "weak" lift pump. Only have 48 K on my 2000 truck right now. Stay tuned !!!

Re:lift pump problem
bkay: Make sure you get the little pig tail wire adapter with the pump. It will be necessary to hook it up in your truck. For future reference, there is an article in the FAQ section I wrote on lift pump replacement. I waited too long to put a gauge on mine and ended up eating the cost of a new pump. Oh well, live and learn.
Good luck working with the dealer, they can be a real pain most of the time.
Re:lift pump problem
Called DC today they got me the approval to warranty the lift pump. Only problem is that it has to be done through the dealer and I'll have to wait until Monday. Tried to get them to let me put it on for them. Wouldn't let me go that route "The repair has to go through the Dealer". Oh well I've already bought one from Frieghtliner. I think I'll just put it on to get me through the weekend.
