Lift Pump (12v) - AHHHHH!
Lift Pump (12v) - AHHHHH!
i am so at a loss.
here's what i've done:
put in new overflow valve
removed old lp
inspected pre-filter; very clean
put in new fuel supply line from end of metal line to fitting behind top of filter
installed new lp and new rubber elbow b/t lp and prefilter (old one was BAD)
put in new fuel filter
put new contacts and plunger in starter solenoid
put on new psc stearing gear box and dss stabilizer.
here's what happened: cracked bleed screw and pressurized fuel tank to about 10psi while pumping the lp primer button. air and fuel were bubbling out the bleed screw. i was waiting for a good stream of fuel but never got there so closed it down then after a couple tries got the engine started (with still some air pressure in the tank, then released pressure after start) but something was wrong. there was some kind of vibration - mainly noticeable inside the cab. i gave it some throttle from under the hood and the engine sounded good but i couldn't tell where the vibration was. got back in and tried to move it but vibration/humming got worse and i thought i smelled something burning??? so shut it off immediately. looked it over again, didn't see any smoke or anything and the smell was gone. checked power steering fluid level. it was low, so i poured the rest of a quart bottle in, so now there is a full qt in there. not sure what the capacity is. now i can't get it going again. i took the elbow back off and repressurized the tank. fuel is flowing freely up to the lp, but the darn thing doesn't seem to be moving fuel. UNLESS...here is my theory: not enough fuel in the tank so when the pressure is released it is vacuming fuel back out of the system away from the lp as the tank contracts back to it's normal size? and the vibration???? could it be from low fluid in the ps pump???

ok, just realized that a contracting fuel tank wouldn't create a vacume, but maybe the fuel is still draning back? can't do anything at the moment w/o a helper but am going to try again to get fuel up to the lp then pump the primer while maintaing pressure and see if i can get it through to the ip and get it started again. still worrying about the smell and the vibration though
You need to crack #1 injector line then use compressed air in the tank, once you get fuel there close it then move to #2 then move to #3 and so on. Also make sure your fuel shutdown selinoid is working properly. When you turn the key on the selinod should come up allowing fuel to flow key off it goes down stoping the fuel flow.
thanks plow
will give it a shot in the morning; although i'm not sure if there is sufficiant flow through the lp. i never got full flow of fuel at the bleed screw on the filter (took filter off again and couldn't see any problems inside). once i get fuel to the lp, should i leave the filter bleed screw shut while the injector line is open?
