Leaking coolant!
Leaking coolant!
Ok so I fired my 04' up about 10 mins before I left work today (its been fairly cool here so I thought I'd be nice to the ol' girl). Came out after changing out of my coveralls and workboots and noticed a small puddle underneath the truck. Crap! So I crawl underneath and find out that its coolant and its leaking pretty good from around the water pump. Is there a seal/gasket that goes on the water pump? Does anyone have any pics/parts fiches on this? Once it warms up the leak is almost non existent, like the seal is expanding enough to close the leak off.
The water pump was done about 30,000kms ago by the dealer I bought it from for the same problem (warranty work). I'm going to use cummins parts instead of cheap china crap that the dealer used (wasn't too pleased about that, but it was done for free).
Any ideas/thoughts before I go drop a whack of cash on parts is greatly appreciated

Gonna swap it out this week and flush the cooling system (dealer put what looks like Dexcool in...)

Stock, they use a HOAT coolant.
It is available just about anywhere, apparently the "turbo power" ELC is the right stuff as well.
I get coolant at the local Kenworth dealer, because... they are actually cheaper than anywhere else right now.
And on edit. DO NOT mix the standard green coolant with the ELC stuff. Nasty things result. The mixture turns to a pasty sugar-like substance, that no hot tank in the world will touch, and it is basically impossible to flush out.
This public service announcement has been brought to you by the letters o, m, f and g, and the number $$$$$... oops, 4.
have a good one.
