Insurance

I had my truck roll down my driveway own its on yesterday morning. I crunk it up to let the air run while I walked back in the house to get my drinks & ice for the day ahead. As I go out my front door, I hear this BAM! My truck while cranked & in park decided to go to work without me. Dam pinetree got in its way. It bashed in my right rear taillight assembly, quarter panel, tailgate, bumper. A big limb fell out of the tree & dented my roof right at the back, small dent & busted my windshield. I took it to my Progressive adjuster who I know well, & he has always been fair with me.
He give me a 2100 dollar estimate. The new replacement parts he allowed me were KEYSTONE pieces of junk that don't fit. Some other stuff was used or salvage yard priced. I questioned him about all of this. I thought here in GA that they had to replace with OEM stuff. He told me because it was a 99 & had 260,000 miles that he Couldn't authorize me new replacement OEM parts.
Is this right? Does anyone know? Does anyone have a nice rear bumper they would like to sell? Anyone please advise me here before I get into a pissing contest. My truck wasn't beat up before, but it is now. Thanks. Jack

I can't speak for your insurance company, but when my truck was damaged, I told State Farm there were to be NO aftermarket or recycled parts to be used on my truck.
My buddy in the body shop made sure it was done correctly.

You do not have to except used or aftermarket parts. Your insurance company
is trying to stick it to you. I believe they want 3 estimates BUT you can have it
repaired ANYWHERE and they have to pay the bill, at least that's the way I got
my wifes car fixed the right way.

Good Luck ..... now keep an eye than workaholic truck of yours

FWIW...

State Farm (based here in Illinois) had a BIG judgement against it
for using non-OEM quality replacement parts. Whole bunches of
millions and millions of dollars.

A couple days ago some appeals court reversed the whole thing,
letting them completely off the hook.

Ahh, horse turds.....

If you have full coverage on the truck it doesn't matter if it has 26 miles or 26,000,000 miles. They are testing your intelligence and are about to fail miserably.

My agent explained it to me very simply one day. Until this year I haven't had a claim in the 10 years that I have been driving. In theory "I" still don't, it was my brother who is on my corporate policy. Anyway, so my agent explains that since my vehicles account for about $5400 of my annual premium I could easily stand for a $8K-$9K loss without any impact on my policy. Now this is certainly not a personal policy, but the idea is the same. Consider the fact that you have probably been insured by your underwriter since this vehicle was new... That's coming up on at least 6 years. When the truck was new and you carried a note your annual premium was at least close to $1000, right? Mine was $2500 annually with State Farm when I was 21, but that was just before I started the business. Now each vehicle runs maybe $1500/year for full coverage. 6 years at even $1000 is $6000! If your claim ends up being $6000 it's still alright. By law they have to pay to repair that vehicle to the condition it was in prior to the claim. They act as though they are entitled to keep your $$$ as their profit, but they are not. It is an inherent risk that all underwriters take. The odds are surely in their favor though. Think of all the motorists that have insurance and have never had an accident!

In my 10 years of driving I have paid out over $68K including this year in premium payments with one fender bender on account of my brother, he was in a parking lot and could have easily left the scene, but he did the right thing and waited for the owner, impressive because he is 19! That one claim was for $2100. Hmm, let's see $68K ~vs~ $2100? I think that you should have a talk with your agent, get them to pay for the repairs to your truck the way you want it repaired, and then cancel your policy with him/her and find someone who is honest.

Thanks guys. I do have Progressive & have had the same policy for over 11 years. When I first insured this truck in 99, it was a little over 1000.00 a year. Now it is 1500.00 a year. No tickets. No accidents involving liability to others. Nothing. They just keep telling me it is periodic rate hikes. This is my third 2k incident in 3 years. I actually had one about to come off my progressive driving record. I also have my commercial big truck insurance & boat insured with them. These guys are getting for about 10k a year for the last 8 years or so. I will change if I can ever get these boo-boos off of my insurance record. I am going back & raise hell with the guy in the morning. I have already replaced my tail light for safety's sake & have a new bumper coming tomorrow. I will get the body work done when I get a chance to. Any body have any similiar issues with Progressive? Thanks again.

I would deffinately raise a fit. A few months ago we were rear-ended by someone not paying attention to the traffic. Took us about four tries with our insurance agent to get what the truck was worth. It was a 99 with about 126k miles on it. We mainly wanted pay off cause the truck was totalled (15k body damage alone). They first tried offering about 17k for the truck, we just said keep figuring. When they finally got their head pulled out of you know where, we got the truck paid off (20k) + almost 800 difference to us.

We have USAA. The lady who hit us was with Allied. Her insurance finally contacted us about a month later, still "trying" to figure out what happened, even though we had the chp report where she admitted to not realizing that we were stopped until about 70-80 feet from us where she slammed on the breaks.

I personally don't think much of Progressive. My wife was rear ended by someone with Progressive and dealing with them was one of the worst experiences of my life. I would go to a body shop and talk to them (and not one recommended by progressive). They will surely know the laws regarding repairs in your state.

I don't thank any insuance company would be easy to deal with if they were the ones on the hook for repairing the damage to both vehicles caused by their policy holder's negligence.

I have Amica, I pulled a bone head and crunched the front corner killing the hood fender bumper head light assy and rad/intercooler, I searched for two weeks as to who I would allow to touch my truck half way through the first week they sent me a check for $6700!!! and said if you find anything not listed on the estimate it will be covered. THEY GAVE ME $670 FOR A HOOD!!! I found a cut in a boost boot and they allowed me PDR parts. I was able to get a steel cowl hood and a NEW RANCH HAND FULL FRONT BUMPER without even a brow raise! I was told by the shop doing my work that there is no comparison to them for authorization of work/parts, yep all mopar or better now, nothing bad to say at all, worth every last cent of my premium!!!!!!!!!
